At the end of every semester, Sampson Community College (SCC) gathers to celebrate the achievements of their Emergency Medical Science (EMS) program. On Thursday, December 15, 2022, SCC faculty, staff, and the families of this semester’s 26 graduates gathered at Clinton Community Church to celebrate the pinning of the Fall 2022 class. It’s a time to recognize students who’ve completed either the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, Advanced EMT Program, or the EMS Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree program that leads to becoming a certified paramedic.
EMT candidates include: Jacob Blanchard, Morgan Brock, Mallory Brown, Dustin Carter, Crystal Couturier, Summerlyn Ammons-Faircloth, Raul Guzman, Raymond Hayes, III, Walter Hicks, Veronica Lanning, Noah Owen, and Kevin Wells. Students were under the instruction of Justin Beasley and William Sykes.
Advanced EMT candidates include: Rylan Carter, Donald Knowles, Logan Madgar, and Timothy Ryan. Students were under the instruction of Tina Madgar and Lauren Faircloth.
Paramedic graduates that had a State Board passing rate of 100% include: Ian Callahan, Elizabeth Faircloth, Prentis Fort, Allston Freeman, Terry Lawson, Bailey Pifer, and Joal Smith. Students were under the instruction of Thomas Newcomb and Justin Beasley.
Paramedic-Bridging graduates include: Justin Beasley, Joshua Herring, and Thomas Newcomb.
Special awards were also presented to students who excelled in their program. The Academic Award was given to the student who maintained the highest GPA in their program. The Clinical Award was given to the student who excelled during their clinical assignments.
Of the EMT Candidates, Mallory Brown received the Academic Award and Raul Guzman received the Clinical Award. Of the Advanced EMT Candidates, Donald Knowles received the Academic Award and Timothy Ryan received the Clinical Award. In the Paramedic Graduates, Bailey Pifer received the Academic Award and Allston Freeman received the Clinical Award.
This year, the EMS Department established a new award that goes to one student in the program, regardless of pathway, that exemplifies what it means to persevere and succeed in their program. The award is called the “Spirit of the Viking.” During the ceremony, the award was bestowed upon Mr. Prentis Fort for the first time.
